Rhode Island Weddings By The Numbers

As a wedding videographer I get an inside look at the Rhode Island wedding industry year after year. With the smallest state's relatively small population, you might think the wedding market here is fairly sleepy compared to other parts of New England and the country. However, the data tells a different story - Rhode Island is truly a wedding wonderland!

Let's start with the biggest number - according to The Wedding Report, there were 7,644 weddings in Rhode Island in 2022. That's an impressive amount for a state with just over 1 million residents! Rhode Island actually ranked 8th in the nation for weddings per capita last year.

Those 6,800 weddings represented nearly $250 million in wedding spending in the Ocean State. The average cost of a Rhode Island wedding in 2022 was around $31,752, slightly above the national average of $31,000. Venues, catering, photography/videography, attire, flowers and other services add up quickly!

Rhode Island's peak wedding months are definitely June through October, when roughly 60% of the year's weddings take place. August is typically the most popular month, likely for the warmer summer weather and stunning coastal backdrop. However, I've filmed gorgeous winter weddings here too with mansions decked out for the holidays.

In terms of wedding destinations, Newport takes the cake with iconic venues like castles, mansions, and hotels hosting hundreds of weddings per year. Other popular spots include Warwick, Providence, North Kingstown and East Greenwich. Wherever they tie the knot, Rhode Island couples love incorporating coastal and nautical themes into their big day.

So there you have it - a tiny state with a huge wedding market! Despite the small geographic area, Rhode Island's beautiful backdrops and dynamic venues make it an incredibly popular place for couples to say "I do."
