How Many Weddings Are in Massachusetts Each Year

In essence, Massachusetts hosts a very sizeable number of weddings each year. While the median cost is relatively normal, the average wedding cost in Massachusetts is among the highest in the country, likely driven by high-end venues and vendors. Wedding guest counts also tend to be on the higher side compared to other states.

Massachusetts Wedding Statistics

As a wedding videographer based in Massachusetts, I've had a front row seat to the thriving wedding industry here in Massachusetts. From the historic venues of Boston to the picturesque vineyards of the Berkshires, couples from all over flock to the Bay State to tie the knot. But just how big is the Massachusetts wedding market? Let's take a look at some figures.

According to The Wedding Report, there were approximately 35,900 weddings in Massachusetts in 2022. That makes Massachusetts the 14th largest wedding market in the United States by number of ceremonies. To put that into perspective, only 14 states hosted more weddings than the relatively small Commonwealth of Massachusetts last year!

The concentration of weddings is even higher in the Greater Boston area. Around 55% of Massachusetts weddings in 2022 took place in the Boston metro region. As one of the oldest cities in America with a rich cultural heritage, Boston has been a wildly popular wedding destination for centuries. Couples are drawn to the iconic venues like the iconic Franklin Park Conservatory, State Room, and Fairmont Copley Plaza.

While weddings fell sharply in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Massachusetts has seen a strong rebound in the last couple of years as restrictions have eased. The Wedding Report projects nearly 36,600 weddings will take place in Massachusetts in 2024, making it one of the biggest years for the local industry in recent memory.

The Massachusetts wedding market is also incredibly lucrative. According to The Wedding Report, the average wedding in Massachusetts has a budget of $39,500 - well above the national average of $28,000. When you tally up over 35,000 weddings per year at that budget level, you can see why the wedding industry is such a massive part of the state's economy.

As a longtime videographer, I've had the pleasure of capturing thousands of Massachusetts weddings over the years. The numbers back it up - the wedding business is booming in this state. If you're a newly engaged couple looking to get married in Massachusetts, let’s connect!
